Origin Story

My passion for the ocean brought me to Santa Cruz, where I worked as an environmental geologist, restoring California’s groundwater and fitting in surfing whenever possible, inspiring my journey to keep creating good. That job taught me how to run a business and gave me the savings to chase a dream. I left to travel the world, but California’s waves—if you know where to look—kept calling me back. Surf nomading primo spots across the state, I met only the coolest of cats, all still slipping and snapping leashes. Maybe we’re all just finding our flow as surfers, or maybe surf leashes are due for some useful innovation.

Hoping to make a difference, I started managing a corporate surf shop in California, eager to dive into the brain of surf culture. Instead, I sold low-quality, generic gear letting surfers down. For months, I had to cut up perfectly good wetsuits due to a “preserve scarcity policy”—waste that could’ve empowered struggling surf villages all over the world. I wanted to break the cycle of prioritizing profits over purpose, a challenge no one person created. In 2022, I channeled my passion to create gear that lifts surfers up, starting with the flagship Wax Comb Surf Leash—durable, lightweight, and traction-regenerating. Committed to better surf gear for ocean protection, I launched Send It Sunny DIY with my geologist earnings.
